ABOUT
Annie Means (b. 2000—she/her) is a writer, journalist, multimedia storyteller, and Thomas J. Watson Fellow. Her work explores women’s visibility and leadership in underrepresented industries, sustainable food systems, adventure-based journalism, and more.
Writing from the Pacific Northwest and around the world, she’s interested in exploring the grey areas of complex stories. Annie has been published in outlets such as Oceanographic Magazine, Food Tank, Passagemaker, and more. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Humanities from Whitman College and, as of 2026, is pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy.
Her accolades include the 2021 Louis B. Perry Research Award, the 2022 Ben Rabinowitz Award, and the 2022 David Nord Award. Most recently, she was awarded Runner Up for the 2024 Yachting Journalist Association Young Journalist of the Year Award and shortlisted for the 2025 Yachting Journalist Association Young Journalist of the Year Award.
